Hello

Originally from the Netherlands, Marcelle van Beusekom has been in the Bay Area for the past 10 years. She is a highly skilled design leader working in the space of emerging technologies, having most recently worked as Director of In-car Experience at Ghost in Mountain View.

At Ghost Marcelle launched a holistic user experience across physical and digital with breakthrough artificial intelligence to deliver on a clear promise: “The first self-driving system so safe that it doesn’t need your attention.”

Fueled with a passion for craft, she always aims to develop products that attract, intrigue and delight users and enhance the overall brand experience. She strives in her work to humanize technology.

With 17+ years of experience rooted in user experience and hardware design development at global design consultancies and in-house corporations, Marcelle has developed an in-depth ability to balance rational business considerations with strong emotional and aesthetic aspirations. Marcelle excels in leading projects that involve “smart” consumer products and innovative technology, as well as large scale projects with multiple design disciplines and user experience ecosystems.

Marcelle holds a BSc and MSc (with honors) from Delft University of Technology in Industrial Design Engineering. She has also studied at Umeå’s Institute of Design.

To play her role in infusing the field of Industrial Design with more diversity she actively participates in Women In Design SF’s mentorship program, speaks at IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America) events and has as a Guest Lecturer taught various classes at California College of Arts and Delft University of Technology.

DesignTraces

Why is this website called DesignTraces?
I believe design that is executed well should integrate into our daily lives, it can be noticed for its beauty, practicality or ingenuity but often it remains unknown who the creators of these objects, experiences and products are. This portfolio provides insight into some of the projects that I was a part of together with the amazing team members at IDEO, McKinsey Design, LUNAR, PDD, Samsung and VanBerlo.
